RWE and Westfalen Group have announced a joint venture to develop a hydrogen fuel station infrastructure in Germany. The partnership aims to expand the network of hydrogen fueling stations in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia to support the growing adoption of hydrogen-powered vehicles.
Plans for Hydrogen-Ready Gas-Fired Power Plants
As part of the joint venture, RWE plans to build hydrogen-ready gas-fired power plants at its own former power plant sites. These plants will be equipped to burn hydrogen as a fuel, enabling the production of cleaner and more sustainable electricity.
First Hydrogen Refueling Station at Emsland Gas-Fired Power Plant
The first hydrogen refuelling station under the joint venture will be constructed at the Emsland gas-fired power plant in Lingen, Lower Saxony. This station is expected to be operational by 2024 and will provide hydrogen fuel for hydrogen-powered cars, buses, and trucks.
