Former Irish Quarterback to Join Men's Lacrosse Program

Buchner's College Career Takes Unexpected Turn

Tyler Buchner, who played quarterback for the University of Notre Dame from 2020 to 2022 before transferring to the University of Alabama in 2023, announced on December 20, 2023, that he will be returning to Notre Dame to play lacrosse. Buchner started three games for Notre Dame in 2021 and nine games in 2022 before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. He transferred to Alabama in the offseason, but did not appear in any games for the Crimson Tide in 2023.

Buchner's decision to return to Notre Dame marks a full circle in his college athletics career. He was a highly touted quarterback recruit coming out of high school, and was expected to be the next star for the Fighting Irish. However, injuries and inconsistent play prevented him from reaching his full potential on the football field. His return to Notre Dame for lacrosse gives him a fresh start and an opportunity to make a name for himself in a different sport.

Buchner's departure from Alabama comes as a surprise, as he was expected to compete for the starting quarterback job in 2024. However, the Crimson Tide have a number of other talented quarterbacks on their roster, including Bryce Young and Jalen Milroe. Buchner's decision to leave Alabama shows that he is confident in his ability to play lacrosse at a high level, and that he is ready for a new challenge.

Buchner's return to Notre Dame is sure to be welcomed by the Irish faithful. He is a popular figure among Notre Dame fans, and his presence on the lacrosse team will only add to the excitement surrounding the program. Buchner has the potential to be a star in lacrosse, and his return to Notre Dame is a great opportunity for him to showcase his talents.
